April is National Garden Month

Earthsense

April is National Garden Month and whether you’re an avid gardener, king of your landscape, or just thinking about a small vegetable garden, keep in mind that you don’t have to have a big backyard to enjoy the benefits of gardening!

Gardens are a great way to get a little physical activity, reduce stress, and if you’re growing fruits and vegetables, lead to healthier eating habits.   As you know, gardens are wonderful for the environment too because plants absorb and filter rain water and reduce soil erosion.  If you have no space for gardening, volunteer to plant and maintain a garden at a local school or library.  If you have limited space, then think about using window boxes to expand your planting space.  And if you’re one of the lucky ones with plenty of garden space to fill, think about using native plants to attract wildlife like butterflies, bees, birds, and bats.
