Dangerous DIY

Earthsense

I’m all for doing a job yourself to save a little money, but in some cases, it really is best to call in a professional.  For example, decaying trees can be a real hazard, but pruning or removing one without a pro could cost you big time.  If you don’t know what you’re doing, you could drop large branches on your home.  And there are about 400,000 power tool related emergency room visits annually in the US, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Asbestos removal, gas line repair, and pest and wild animal removal should all be handled by a specialist.  Improperly installing electrical wiring is a leading cause of home fires, so call in a pro for any electrical work.  When it comes to home renovation, the TV shows sure make it all look so easy!  But before you grab the sledge hammer, make sure a licensed contractor checks that you’re not removing a load bearing wall!  Find these tips and more on the Earth Sense podcast page at South Carolina Public Radio dot org.
