Grammy Award-winning vocalist Dee Dee Bridgewater has been on the jazz scene for nearly four decades. After getting her start with the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra, she honed her talent and headed to Broadway in 1975, where her performance in The Wiz was honored with a Tony Award. As a returning guest to Piano Jazz, Bridgewater was no stranger to public radio: for more than twenty years, she hosted the NPR series JazzSet. On this 2003 program, McPartland accompanies Bridgewater as she puts her special twist on classic standards.
