Energy Boosting Foods

When it comes to ways to boost your energy, especially during that mid afternoon slump, think about these energy boosting foods rather than reaching for that fifth cup of coffee or the oh-so-tempting candy bar. Grab a hand full of fresh juicy berries rich in complex carbohydrates and filling fiber.  Berries also pack a healthy dose of vitamin C and antioxidants.  Seeds and nuts are a great pick-me-up as well because they pack a nice protein punch that will keep you fueled through the afternoon.  Citrus fruits taste great, are full of vitamin C and fiber and their zesty scent can help you feel more alert. Try some leafy greens like broccoli, spinach, kale, or arugula, to increase your iron and produce energy.  And when all else fails, a spoon-full of honey can give you a quick boost, but opt for the darker colored honeys which contain more antioxidants.
