Food Safety 2

Food safety actually starts where you purchase your food, so here are a few tips to help you safeguard your family while shopping for food.  Inspect canned food and check for dents, bulging and cracks that could point to contamination. Place meat, poultry, and even produce in plastic bags to prevent any cross-contamination.  It’s also a good idea to keep these foods separate when bagging your groceries.  Frozen foods and perishables should be the last items you put in your cart and be mindful of time and temperature.  Food safety experts suggest that perishables should not be left at room temperature for more than two hours because bacteria can multiply in this “danger zone.”  And remember to refrigerate those perishables as soon as possible.
