Food-borne illnesses resulting from bacteria, viruses, parasites, and other contaminates are a major health concern for your family.  Did you know that one in six Americans will get sick from food poisoning this year? While most will recover with no lasting effects, some serious long term effects like kidney failure and brain and nerve damage are possible.  Those at higher risk include pregnant women, older adults, and those with pre-existing health concerns.  But as they say, the best defense is a good offense, so take some time to educate yourself on safe food handling practices.  Do you know what minimum cooking temperatures are for meats and poultry?  Do you know how long eggs will last in the refrigerator or what the storage times may be for things in your refrigerator or freezer?  Find answers to these questions  on these easy to follow food safety charts.
