Gutter Cleaning

Earthsense

It’s not a fun chore, but if you’re a homeowner, then you should be cleaning out your gutters one to two times a year to avoid moisture build up and mold.  So, put on your rubber gloves, grab your ladder and a bucket, and follow these steps to keep your gutters clean.  Start in the corners or tight spots where debris builds up.

Use a bucket to collect the wet waste to avoid creating a slipping hazard.  Once the corners and downspouts are clear, clean the straight runs.  You can create a scooper from the handle side of an old milk jug to expedite the process.  Once the gunk is clear, bring up the hose to blast water along your gutters for a final cleansing rinse.  If you find that your gutters are gathering a lot of debris, then you may want to consider fine weave mesh guards to help water flow and keep debris to a minimum.  Find more information on the Earth Sense podcast page at South Carolina Public Radio dot org.
