Help in Fighting the Worst of the Weeds

Hello Gardeners, I'm Amanda McNulty with Clemson Extension and making It Grow. Perennial weeds and even certain annual weeds - chamberbitter is my worst nightmare - present special problems if they get established in your turf grass. Fortunately, Clemson's home & garden information center has fact sheets on some of the toughest of those weeds. If you will open up the website Clemson hgic and then enter "weeds" into the search block, you'll get a list of the worst offenders and how to get some control of them.

Florida betony is so tough that many people get a professional company to help with that one. Education is knowledge - know your turf grass species, know your weed, and know the proper cultural practices, pesticide choices, and application techniques to keep your lawn mostly weed free. Remember what the Maryland Extension service says - it is perfectly acceptable to have a few weeds in your lawn - bumblebees are happy to see henbit blossoms this time of year.

She studied horticulture at Clemson University as a non-traditional student. “I’m so fortunate that my early attempts at getting a degree got side tracked as I’m a lot better at getting dirty in the garden than practicing diplomacy!” McNulty also studied at South Carolina State University and earned a graduate degree in teaching there.
