Home Insulation

It’s the time of year when we start thinking about sealing any holes or leaks and adding insulation to our homes.  You’ll want to be sure to check the caulking on your windows and doors as these are the most common places houses lose energy. But don’t forget the attic hatch, any recessed lighting features, plumbing vents, behind Kneewalls, and basement or crawl space rim joists.  If you’re planning a do-it-yourself weekend, be sure you have a plan, prepare to get dirty, and above all, be safe!  When it comes to sealing your homes’ leaks, plug the big holes first like the space around a furnace flue or behind the kneewalls in your attic.  Then work your way to smaller gaps around plumbing vents and electrical boxes.  Don’t forget to check that your duct work is properly insulated.
