Hub City Marks Twenty Years with Award Winning Novel

James McTeer II
Hub City Writers Project

Betsy Teter, Executive Director--and one of the co-founders--of the Hub City Writer's Project talks with Walter Edgar about twenty years of Hub City. Novelist JamesMcTeer IIjoins the conversation to talk about, Minnow, the winner of the South Carolina First Novel Prize, sponsored by the South Carolina Arts Commission and Hub City Press.

In May 1995 a trio of writers in Spartanburg, SC, began to talk in a downtown coffee shop about how they could help preserve a sense of place in their rapidly changing Southern city. Twenty years later, the organization they created—the Hub City Writers Project— has published more than 500 writers in 66 books, renovated two historic downtown buildings, and given away more than $20,000 in scholarships to emerging writers. It has also provided creative writing instruction to hundreds in the Carolinas and beyond.
