July 4th Travel

Many South Carolinians will be traveling this weekend to see friends and family and celebrate Independence Day.  With gas prices historically high, the price of your trip could really tug on your monthly budget.  But there are things that you can do to make your trip easier and more cost effective.  First, plan on taking a cooler with drinks and snacks you bring from home, this way, you won’t waste money or time in the fast food drive through.  And when it comes to fuel efficiency, remember that sticking close to the speed limit and using your cruise control both help maximize your miles per gallon.  Although the opposite would seem true, closing the windows and using the AC at speeds above 55 miles per hour is better for fuel efficiency because an open window creates drag, which in turn causes your engine to work harder.  Be safe on the road and have a happy Independence Day!
