Kitchen Sink Sins

Earthsense

Your kitchen sink might seem like a good place to dispose of household waste, but be sure to avoid these kitchen sink sins!  Never send used motor oil or any automotive fluids like antifreeze, or brake fluid down any drain- these should be disposed of at your hazardous waste recycling center.  But cooking oil should also never be poured down the sink.  It can harden in your pipes and cause some very expensive damage.

Set aside an aluminum can or cup to catch cooking grease and avoid putting it into your compost as it blocks the oxygen necessary for decomposition.  Unused medications should never go down the drain or the toilet as they contaminate our water supply.  Find a drug take-back event near you or ask your pharmacy if they take unused drugs.  And pet waste should not be flushed- rather it should go out with the regular garbage.
