Lower Water Temperatures to Save Energy

Earthsense

Did you know that something as small as changing the temperature setting on your water heater could save energy and money?  By lowering your water heater temperature setting to 120 to 125 degrees Fahrenheit, you can reduce your household energy consumption.  If you’re in the market for a new water heater, look for Energy Star products which have been designed to meet efficiency guidelines.

There’s another room in your house where water temperatures can affect your power bill: your laundry room.  90% of the energy consumed by washing machines is used to heat the water for your laundry.  So, wash your clothes in cold water.  Not only does this save energy, but because cold water won’t fade your clothes as quickly, this can extend the life of your favorite jeans or t-shirt.
