When pianist and vocalist Michael Feinstein was a guest on Piano Jazz in 1988, his career was just beginning to take off. The legendary songwriter Ira Gershwin had hired the young musician to archive records and memorabilia that belonged to both Ira and his younger brother George, and Feinstein has become recognized as the ambassador of The Great American Songbook. His dedication to popular song—both as a performer and as a historian—made him the perfect host for Song Travels with Michael Feinstein, which was produced by South Carolina Public Radio and distributed by NPR as a companion to Piano Jazz, which he also guest hosted.
