South Carolina Wetlands

Earthsense

South Carolina is a beautiful state with a diverse topography and distinct eco-systems, but did you know that our swamps and wetlands that filter pollutants from rainwater runoffs, support a variety to fish and wildlife, and help prevent flooding in many communities?

Wetlands act as filters for water running downstream, so without the Congaree Bottomland Hardwood Swamp, South Carolina would have to build a five million dollar wastewater treatment plant to service the communities around the swamp!  And these wetlands provide food and shelter for a host of aquatic wildlife.  Do your part to protect our wetland eco-systems by keeping your lawn and driveway free of pet waste, fertilizers, and motor oils than can pollute run off during the rainy season.  Choose native species when planning your landscaping and never release exotic reptiles or amphibians into the wild.
