Spice Instead of Salt

Earthsense

We’re all looking for ways to get healthy, and one quick tip is to use smaller dishes.  Research suggests that the larger your plate, bowl or glass, the more likely you are to eat more.  Reducing your consumption of salt can also help you lose weight while reducing your blood pressure.

But you don’t have to eat bland foods, think about spicing up your dishes rather than turning to salt.  For a greater flavor punch, increase the amount of spice or herbs in a recipe when reducing or eliminating salt.  Lightly crush the herbs in your dish to release all flavor.  For long-cooking dishes like soups or stews, it’s a good idea to add spices last for a more intense flavor, and for no-cook meals, add the spices early on so they can permeate the dish.  Lowering sodium doesn’t have to mean inferior flavor!
