Urban Trees

You’re aware that trees are essentially the lungs of the Earth, soaking up CO2 and turning out clean oxygen.  But have you considered all the benefits of urban trees and community forests?  Aside from cleaner air and their aesthetic value, trees create a sense of well-being, provide privacy in a city setting, and can help reduce energy consumption because they block the sun in the summer and serve as windbreaks in the winter.

Trees absorb noise in an urban environment, create wildlife and plant diversity, and conserve water while reducing soil erosion.  So plant a tree this weekend!  For your home, look for evergreen trees to plant along the north side of your home to block winter winds and plant shade trees which shed their leaves in the winter along the south and west sides of your property for summer energy savings.  For public spaces, get in touch with your city planner to talk about green spaces.
